Dr. Supriya Kulkarni
Associate Professor of Medical Imaging, University of Toronto
Joint Department of Medical Imaging (JDMI) — UHN, Mount Sinai Hospital & Women's College Hospital
Teaching Philosophy
Supriya is the engine behind breast imaging education in Toronto and all of Canada — she runs the breast courses, supervises the breast imaging fellowship, and has been recognized year after year as an Outstanding Teacher in the residency and fellowship programs. Her teaching is methodical, evidence-driven, and grounded in real screening practice. She trains radiologists who can read confidently from day one, because every breast study can change a patient's life — and she expects you to treat it that way.
About
Dr. Supriya Kulkarni is Division Head of Breast Imaging and Associate Professor at the University of Toronto's Department of Medical Imaging, and a staff breast radiologist at the Joint Department of Medical Imaging (JDMI) — UHN, Mount Sinai Hospital, and Women's College Hospital. She is President of the Canadian Society of Breast Imaging (CSBI) and a Fellow of the Society of Breast Imaging (FSBI). With over two decades of clinical breast imaging experience embedded in the Ontario Breast Screening Program (OBSP) — Canada's largest organized screening program — she serves as Regional Breast Imaging Lead for multiple Ontario cancer programs. She has been a leading national voice in screening policy, providing testimony to the House of Commons Standing Committee on Health (HESA) and contributing to Ontario's decision to lower the screening age to 40. Her research and clinical work span digital breast tomosynthesis, breast MRI, low-dose positron emission mammography, and AI applications in breast cancer detection.
